Description
OpenClaw before 2026.5.6 contains an approval policy bypass vulnerability in the Skill Workshop apply flow that allows agent tool calls to set apply: true despite approvalPolicy: pending configuration. Attackers can exploit this by reaching the affected apply path to apply workshop changes before the expected approval step, potentially modifying configurations without proper authorization.
A vulnerability allowing approval policy bypass has been identified in OpenClaw versions prior to 2026.5.6. This issue occurs in the Skill Workshop apply flow, where agent tool calls can incorrectly set 'apply' to true, disregarding the 'approvalPolicy' set to pending. Exploitation of this vulnerability allows unauthorized application of workshop changes, potentially leading to unauthorized modifications of configurations.
Users are advised to manually review Skill Workshop changes and keep the tool restricted until updated to version 2026.5.6 or later. As a general precaution, maintain narrow channel and tool allowlists, avoid sharing a single Gateway between untrusted users, and disable the affected feature when not in use.
