Description
FreeScout is a free help desk and shared inbox built with PHP's Laravel framework. Prior to version 1.8.224, the FreeScout helpdesk application does not enforce rate limiting on the file upload endpoint. Any user can flood the server with upload requests, leading to database overload and potential denial of service for all users. Version 1.8.224 contains a fix.
A denial-of-service vulnerability has been identified in FreeScout versions prior to 1.8.224. The issue arises from the file upload endpoint, which lacks rate limiting. This absence allows users to send a high volume of upload requests, causing database overload and disrupting service for all users. Each uploaded file generates a new database record and consumes disk space, rapidly depleting server resources. The vulnerability can be exploited without any user interaction or special privileges.
Users can update to FreeScout version 1.8.224 or later to address this vulnerability.
