CVE-2026-53188 Details
Description
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: RDMA/core: Validate the passed in fops for ib_get_ucaps() Sashiko pointed out it is not safe to rely only on the devt because char/block alias so if the user finds a block device with the same dev_t it can masquerade as a ucap cdev fd. Test the f_ops to only accept authentic cdevs.
A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's RDMA (Remote Direct Memory Access) subsystem has been addressed. This issue arose because the system relied solely on the device's identifier, which can be misleading due to the overlap between character and block devices. An attacker could exploit this by finding a block device that shares the same identifier, potentially tricking the system into treating it as a valid character device for user capability operations. The vulnerability has been fixed by updating the validation process to ensure that only genuine character devices are accepted.
Users can upgrade to the latest version of the Linux kernel where this vulnerability has been fixed. Instructions for downloading the patched version are available on the Linux kernel's official website.
