CVE-2026-53148 Details
Description
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: thunderbolt: Clamp XDomain response data copy to allocation size tb_xdp_properties_request() derives the per-packet copy length from the response header without checking that it fits in the previously allocated data buffer. A malicious peer can set its length field larger than the declared data_length, causing memcpy to write past the kcalloc allocation. Clamp the per-packet copy length so that the cumulative offset never exceeds data_len.
A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's Thunderbolt driver allows for improper handling of response data in XDomain properties, potentially leading to memory corruption. The issue arises in the 'tb_xdp_properties_request()' function, where the length of data to be copied is derived from the response header without adequate validation. This oversight enables a malicious peer to specify a length greater than the actual data length, causing a buffer overflow by writing past the allocated memory. The vulnerability affects the Linux kernel stable tree.
Users can upgrade to the latest version of the Linux kernel stable tree, where this vulnerability has been addressed. Instructions for downloading the patched version are available on the official Linux kernel website.
