Description
Heap-based buffer overflow in Windows NTFS allows an unauthorized attacker to elevate privileges with a physical attack.
A heap-based buffer overflow vulnerability has been identified in the Windows NT File System (NTFS). This vulnerability allows an unauthorized attacker to elevate privileges, but requires physical access to the affected system. The issue arises from the way NTFS handles certain data, creating an opportunity for privilege escalation.
Users can apply the security update KB5099535 for Windows Server 2016, KB5099539 for various Windows 10 versions, KB5101649 for Windows 11, KB5099540 for Windows Server 2022, and KB5099536 for Windows Server 2025. For Windows Server 2019, the security update KB5099538 is available. These security updates can be downloaded via the Microsoft Update Catalog.
