Description
Heap-based buffer overflow in Windows DHCP Server allows an unauthorized attacker to execute code over an adjacent network.
A heap-based buffer overflow vulnerability has been identified in the Windows DHCP Server. This vulnerability allows an unauthorized attacker to execute code on the affected server by sending specially crafted network traffic from an adjacent network. The issue arises from improper input validation, which can be exploited to overwrite memory and execute arbitrary code.
Users can download the security update for this vulnerability via the Microsoft Update Catalog. Security update KB5099535 is available for Windows Server 2016 and Windows 10 Version 1607. For Windows Server 2025, the security update KB5099536 can be downloaded. Windows Server 2012 R2 users can apply the monthly rollup KB5099444. Windows Server 2022 users should also apply the security update KB5099540. For Windows Server 2019, the security update KB5099538 is available. Windows 10 Version 1809 users can download the security update KB5099538.
