Description
Stack-based buffer overflow in Windows Resilient File System (ReFS) allows an authorized attacker to elevate privileges locally.
A stack-based buffer overflow vulnerability has been identified in the Windows Resilient File System (ReFS). This vulnerability allows an authorized attacker to elevate privileges locally. It affects multiple Windows 10 versions, Windows Server 2016, Windows Server 2019, Windows Server 2022, Windows Server 2025, and various Windows 11 versions.
Users can download the security update for this vulnerability via the Microsoft Update Catalog. Security Update KB5099538 is available for Windows Server 2019 and Windows 10 Version 1809 for both x64-based and 32-bit systems. For Windows 11, Security Update KB5101650 can be downloaded for Version 25H2 on ARM64-based and x64-based systems. Windows Server 2025 users can also download the security update via the Microsoft Update Catalog.
