Description
IBM Qiskit SDK 0.43.0 through 2.5.0 could allow an attacker to trigger a segmentation fault leading to a denial of service due to uncontrolled recursion in the parser.
A denial-of-service vulnerability has been identified in the IBM Qiskit SDK, affecting versions 0.43.0 prior to 2.5.0. The issue arises in the QASM parser, where certain classical expressions can cause specific functions to recurse excessively, leading to a stack overflow and segmentation fault.
Users can upgrade to Qiskit versions 1.4.6 or 2.4.2, both of which address the vulnerability by introducing a recursion limit that can be adjusted if necessary. Future Qiskit versions may include a non-recursive parser for OpenQASM 2.
