Description
HAX CMS helps manage microsite universe with PHP or NodeJs backends. Starting in version 9.0.1 and prior to version 26.0.0 of @haxtheweb/open-apis, multiple functions conduct substring-only matching to validate hostnames to which basic authorization should be sent. An attacker can append the matched substrings to an attacker-controlled endpoint and capture authentication. Version 26.0.0 fixes the issue.
A vulnerability exists in HAX CMS versions 9.0.1 prior to 26.0.0 of the @haxtheweb/open-apis package. The issue arises from multiple functions that use substring-only matching to validate hostnames for basic authorization. This flaw allows an attacker to append matched substrings to a controlled endpoint and capture authentication credentials. The vulnerability is present in the 'cacheAddress.js', 'JOSHelpers.js', and 'elmslnToSite.js' files, where the logic fails to properly validate hostnames, enabling credential theft through crafted API calls.
Users can upgrade to version 26.0.0 or later to address this vulnerability.
