CVE-2026-45876 Details
Description
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: arm64/gcs: Fix error handling in arch_set_shadow_stack_status() alloc_gcs() returns an error-encoded pointer on failure, which comes from do_mmap(), not NULL. The current NULL check fails to detect errors, which could lead to using an invalid GCS address. Use IS_ERR_VALUE() to properly detect errors, consistent with the check in gcs_alloc_thread_stack().
A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's handling of the Global Control Stack (GCS) for arm64 architecture has been addressed. The issue arose because the function 'alloc_gcs()' returned an error-encoded pointer on failure, originating from 'do_mmap()', rather than a NULL value. The existing NULL check was inadequate for error detection, potentially leading to the use of an invalid GCS address. This vulnerability affects several versions of the Linux kernel.
Users can upgrade to the latest version of the Linux kernel where this vulnerability has been fixed. The specific commit addressing this issue is '53c998527ffa60f9deda8974a11ad39790684159', which is included in the official Linux kernel repositories.
