Description
Open WebUI is a self-hosted artificial intelligence platform designed to operate entirely offline. Prior to 0.8.12, the /api/v1/utils/code/execute endpoint executes arbitrary Python code via Jupyter for any verified user, even when the admin has set ENABLE_CODE_EXECUTION=false. The feature gate is not enforced on the API endpoint — the configuration says "disabled" but code still executes. This vulnerability is fixed in 0.8.12.
A vulnerability in Open WebUI versions through 0.8.11 allows authenticated users to execute arbitrary Python code via Jupyter, regardless of the admin setting 'ENABLE_CODE_EXECUTION', which is intended to disable such functionality. The API endpoint '/api/v1/utils/code/execute' does not properly enforce this configuration, leading to unauthorized code execution. This issue is compounded by the Jupyter container's access to internal Docker services, creating a potential server-side request forgery (SSRF) vector.
Users should update to Open WebUI version 0.8.12 or later, where this vulnerability has been fixed.
