CVE-2026-44942 Details
Description
A path traversal in handling the "path" component of .repo files processed by libzypp before 17.38.13 in the 17.x series, or before 16.22.19 could be used by attackers to fill directories on the system outside of the zypp cache with content.
A path traversal vulnerability has been identified in libzypp, affecting versions prior to 17.38.13 in the 17.x series and prior to 16.22.19. This vulnerability allows attackers to manipulate the 'path' component of .repo files, which libzypp processes from remote servers. By injecting specific directories, attackers could cause libzypp to write cached data outside the intended directories, potentially leading to unauthorized file creation or modification on the system.
Users can update to libzypp versions 17.38.13 or 16.22.19 to address this vulnerability. Instructions for updating can be found on the SUSE Customer Center.
