CVE-2026-44941 Details
Description
A relative path traversal in the "keyhint" option in repomd.xml parsing of libzypp before 17.38.12 can be used by attackers able to supply a malicious repository to inject or overwrite files in the target system as root.
A relative path traversal vulnerability has been identified in libzypp versions prior to 17.38.12. This issue arises in the 'keyhint' option during repomd.xml parsing. Attackers who can provide a malicious repository can exploit this vulnerability to inject or overwrite files on the target system with root privileges. The vulnerability was reported by Trung Nguyen, who demonstrated that an attacker-controlled RPMMD repository could be used to execute arbitrary code as root by exploiting the path traversal flaw.
Users can update to libzypp version 17.38.12 or later, where this vulnerability has been fixed.
