CVE-2026-44509 Details
Description
Rejected reason: ** REJECT ** DO NOT USE THIS CANDIDATE NUMBER. ConsultIDs: CVE-2026-43619. Reason: This candidate is a duplicate of CVE-2026-43619. Notes: All CVE users should reference CVE-2026-43619 instead of this candidate.
A vulnerability in Rsync prior to version 3.4.3 allows an attacker with local filesystem access to exploit symlink races in path-based system calls such as chmod, chown, and others. This issue arises in Rsync daemons configured with 'use chroot = no', enabling the attacker to manipulate permissions, ownership, or timestamps on files outside the designated module. The vulnerability takes advantage of missed races in previous bug fixes, potentially leading to unauthorized changes on the filesystem.
Users can upgrade to Rsync version 3.4.3 or later to address this vulnerability. For those using Rsync daemons, it is recommended to keep 'use chroot' set to the default value of yes.
