Description
A logic error involving bitwise OR operations in Netatalk 3.1.4 through 4.4.2 allows a remote authenticated attacker to inject OS commands and execute arbitrary code.
A shell injection vulnerability has been identified in Netatalk versions 3.1.4 prior to 4.4.2. This issue arises from a bitwise OR logic bug that allows user identity information to be appended to a shell command without proper escaping. In environments with directory-service-backed accounts, an authenticated AFP session could exploit this flaw to execute commands as the session user.
Users can upgrade to Netatalk version 4.4.3 or later, which includes the necessary patch. Alternatively, the patch can be applied to a Netatalk 4.4.2 source tree. Netatalk administrators are advised to make this upgrade or apply the patch as soon as possible.
