Description
An improper link resolution vulnerability in Netatalk 3.0.2 through 4.4.2 allows a remote authenticated attacker to read arbitrary files or overwrite arbitrary files via attacker-controlled symlink creation.
A vulnerability allowing arbitrary file read has been identified in Netatalk versions 3.0.2 through 4.4.2. This issue arises from the handling of AFP metadata, which can create symlinks based on client-controlled file data without proper validation, potentially leading outside the intended share boundary. An authenticated client could exploit this to create persistent links pointing to unauthorized locations.
Users can upgrade to Netatalk version 4.4.3 or later, which includes the necessary patch. Alternatively, apply the CVE-2026-44051.patch to a Netatalk 4.4.2 source tree. Netatalk administrators are advised to restrict write access on AFP volumes until the patch is applied.
