CVE-2026-44050 Details
Description
A heap-based buffer overflow in the CNID daemon comm_rcv() function in Netatalk 2.0.0 through 4.4.2 allows a remote authenticated attacker to execute arbitrary code with escalated privileges or cause a denial of service.
A heap buffer overflow vulnerability has been identified in the CNID daemon of Netatalk versions 2.0.0 through 4.4.2. The issue arises because the daemon trusts client-supplied name lengths, allowing for the overflow of memory and potentially crashing the service. This vulnerability can be exploited by a local client that can reach the CNID service.
Users can upgrade to Netatalk version 4.4.3 or later, which includes the necessary patch. Alternatively, the patch can be applied to a Netatalk 4.4.2 source tree. Netatalk administrators are advised to make the upgrade or apply the patch as soon as possible.
