Description
Stirling-PDF is a locally hosted web application that facilitates various operations on PDF files. Prior to 2.0.0, Stirling-PDF's /get-info-on-pdf endpoint rendered PDF Title and Author metadata fields without proper HTML encoding or sanitization, allowing a crafted PDF to execute attacker-controlled JavaScript in the browser of a user who views the resulting page. This issue is fixed in version 2.0.0.
A reflected cross-site scripting vulnerability has been identified in Stirling-PDF versions prior to 2.0.0. The issue arises in the '/get-info-on-pdf' endpoint, where PDF Title and Author metadata fields are rendered without adequate HTML encoding or sanitization. This oversight allows a crafted PDF to execute attacker-controlled JavaScript in the browser of any user who views the resulting page. The vulnerability is rooted in the application's failure to properly encode untrusted metadata before displaying it.
Users can upgrade to Stirling-PDF version 2.0.0 or later, where this vulnerability has been fixed.
