Description
snes9x 1.63 allows an out-of-bounds write and denial of service via a crafted .ups file.
A heap-based out-of-bounds write vulnerability has been identified in Snes9x version 1.63. This issue arises when a crafted .ups patch file is applied, allowing the patch to write beyond the allocated memory of the ROM. The vulnerability is triggered automatically when the emulator loads a ROM that has a matching .ups file, without any user intervention. This flaw can cause the emulator to crash, and under certain conditions, may be exploitable to execute arbitrary code.
Users can update to the patched version of Snes9x, which includes a bounds check to prevent the out-of-bounds write. The latest version can be downloaded from the official Snes9x GitHub repository.
