Description
When Bidirectional Forwarding Detection (BFD) is configured in Static and Dynamic routing protocols, undisclosed traffic can cause the Traffic Management Microkernel (TMM) to stop processing BFD packets and cause the configured routing protocol to fail over. Note: Software versions which have reached End of Technical Support (EoTS) are not evaluated.
A denial-of-service vulnerability has been identified in F5 BIG-IP when Bidirectional Forwarding Detection (BFD) is used with static and dynamic routing protocols. Undisclosed traffic can disrupt the Traffic Management Microkernel (TMM), causing it to stop processing BFD packets. This interruption can lead to a failover in the configured routing protocol. The vulnerability affects BIG-IP versions 16.1.0 to 16.1.6, 17.1.0 to 17.1.2, and 21.x. Notably, F5 BIG-IQ Centralized Management is not vulnerable.
Users can upgrade to BIG-IP versions 17.5.1 or 17.1.3 to address this vulnerability. For those on the 16.x branch, F5 has stated that no fix will be provided.
