Description
Suricata is a network IDS, IPS and NSM engine. Prior to versions 7.0.15 and 8.0.4, flooding of craft HTTP2 continuation frames can lead to memory exhaustion, usually resulting in the Suricata process being shut down by the operating system. This issue has been patched in versions 7.0.15 and 8.0.4.
A memory exhaustion vulnerability has been identified in Suricata, a network IDS, IPS, and NSM engine, in versions prior to 7.0.15 and 8.0.4. The issue arises from flooding the application with crafted HTTP2 continuation frames, leading to excessive memory use. This memory exhaustion typically causes the Suricata process to be terminated by the operating system.
Users can upgrade to Suricata versions 8.0.4 or 7.0.15 to address this vulnerability. Additionally, as a workaround, the 'stream.reassembly.depth' parameter can be set to a limited value, as the default (0) allows unlimited reassembly. Another workaround is to disable the HTTP2 parser.
