Description
Users who connect to malicious registries with hostnames matching the bypass patterns will have their registry credentials exposed in plaintext. This issue is fixed in container version 0.12.3.
A vulnerability exists in the Apple Container tool, specifically in versions through 0.12.1, due to insecure hostname validation. The 'isInternalHost()' function improperly assesses whether a registry host should use HTTP or HTTPS. This flaw allows attackers to create hostnames that evade the validation, prompting the client to transmit registry credentials unencrypted over HTTP. As a result, users connecting to malicious registries with certain bypassing hostnames may have their credentials exposed in plaintext. This issue impacts registry login, image operations with authenticated registries, and any registry interaction using the default '--scheme auto' setting.
Users can upgrade to Container version 0.12.3 to address this vulnerability.
