Description
Mbed TLS 3.5.0 to 3.6.5 fixed in 3.6.6 and 4.1.0 has a buffer overflow in the x509_inet_pton_ipv6() function
A buffer underflow vulnerability has been identified in the Mbed TLS library versions 3.5.0 prior to 3.6.5 and 4.0.0. The issue arises in the x509_inet_pton_ipv6() function, which is used to parse IPv6 addresses. When the function encounters IPv4-mapped IPv6 addresses, it incorrectly navigates back to the beginning of the buffer, potentially leading to a buffer underread of up to 4 bytes. This vulnerability could cause a denial-of-service condition on platforms with memory protection that restricts access across page boundaries.
Users should upgrade to Mbed TLS versions 3.6.6 or 4.1.0. For those maintaining branches with backported bug fixes, relevant commits are available.
