Description
A security flaw has been discovered in Free5GC up to 4.1.0. This impacts the function identityTriggerType of the file pfcp_reports.go. The manipulation results in null pointer dereference. The attack can be executed remotely. The exploit has been released to the public and may be used for attacks. Applying a patch is advised to resolve this issue.
A null pointer dereference vulnerability has been identified in Free5GC versions through 4.1.0, specifically within the Session Management Function (SMF) when processing certain Packet Forwarding Control Protocol (PFCP) SessionReportRequests. The issue arises in the 'identityTriggerType' function of 'pfcp_reports.go', where the absence of a required UsageReportTrigger sub-IE leads to a crash, causing a denial-of-service condition by terminating the SMF process. This vulnerability can be exploited remotely, without authentication, by sending a malformed SessionReportRequest that includes a UsageReport but omits the mandatory UsageReportTrigger. The vulnerability has been publicly disclosed and is associated with CVE-2026-1975.
Users are advised to update to Free5GC version 4.2.0, where this vulnerability has been fixed.
