CVE-2026-19189 Details
Description
A security flaw has been discovered in Power Sofware PowerISO 9.3.0.0. Affected by this issue is some unknown functionality in the library C:\Windows\System32\drivers\scdemu.sys of the component Kernel Driver. The manipulation results in improper privilege management. The attack is only possible with local access. The exploit has been released to the public and may be used for attacks. The vendor was contacted early about this disclosure but did not respond in any way.
A local privilege escalation vulnerability has been identified in PowerISO version 9.3.0.0, specifically within the kernel driver 'scdemu.sys' (version 6.9.0.0). The vulnerability arises from improper privilege management, allowing low-privileged users to manipulate protected registry values through exposed IOCTLs. This exploitation bypasses normal access controls, enabling unauthorized modifications to critical system registry keys.
It is recommended to remove the vulnerable IOCTLs from the public device interface, restrict the device object access control list to prevent standard users from opening the SCDEmu device links, and require administrative authorization for registry modification requests. If kernel-mode registry access is necessary, the driver should impersonate the caller and enforce normal access checks on registry objects.
