CVE-2026-15170 Details
Description
Z39.50 protocol dissector crash in Wireshark 4.6.0 to 4.6.6 and 4.4.0 to 4.4.16 allows denial of service
A heap-based buffer overflow vulnerability has been identified in the Z39.50 protocol dissector of Wireshark. This issue is present in Wireshark versions 4.6.0 through 4.6.6 and 4.4.0 through 4.4.16. The vulnerability allows for a denial-of-service condition, where Wireshark can be made to crash. The issue arises because the dissector improperly calculates the number of directory entries in MARC21 records, leading to an out-of-bounds write in memory. This vulnerability can be triggered by capturing a Z39.50 response on the default TCP port 210 or by opening a crafted capture file in Wireshark or Tshark.
Users are advised to upgrade to Wireshark versions 4.6.7, 4.4.17 or later.
