CVE-2026-15167 Details
Description
DBS Etherwatch file parser crash in Wireshark 4.6.0 to 4.6.6 and 4.4.0 to 4.4.16 allows denial of service
A denial-of-service vulnerability has been identified in Wireshark versions 4.6.0 to 4.6.6 and 4.4.0 to 4.4.16. The issue arises in the DBS Etherwatch file parser, where a heap buffer overflow occurs. This vulnerability allows a crafted capture file to be processed in a way that writes attacker-controlled bytes beyond the allocated buffer, leading to memory corruption. The flaw can be exploited by opening or auto-processing a malicious file, without the need for authentication.
Users are advised to upgrade to Wireshark versions 4.6.7, 4.4.17 or later.
