Crash in ciscodump 4.6.0 to 4.6.6 and 4.4.0 to 4.4.16 allows denial of service
A denial-of-service vulnerability has been identified in the Ciscodump external capture tool, which is part of Wireshark. This issue affects Ciscodump versions 4.6.0 to 4.6.6 and 4.4.0 to 4.4.16. The vulnerability arises from an unbounded heap write in the Ciscodump parser for remote hex-dump output from Cisco devices. The parser decodes hex groups into a fixed-size heap buffer, exceeding the buffer limit and causing a heap buffer overflow. This flaw can be exploited by connecting to a compromised Cisco device via SSH, leading to a crash of the Ciscodump capture process and potential memory corruption.
Users are advised to upgrade to Wireshark versions 4.6.7, 4.4.17 or later.
