Description
An authenticated user with limited read privileges may be able to access documents from collections they are not authorized to read, due to an inconsistency in how the $graphLookup aggregation stage is evaluated during authorization and during execution. Affected scenarios involve collections referenced within existing view pipeline definitions.
A vulnerability exists in MongoDB's $graphLookup aggregation stage, where an authenticated user with limited read privileges may access documents from unauthorized collections. This issue arises from a discrepancy in how authorization and execution are evaluated, particularly with collections referenced in existing view pipeline definitions. The vulnerability affects MongoDB versions 8.0.27, 8.2.12, 8.0.28, 7.0.39, and 9.0.0-rc0.
Users can upgrade to MongoDB versions 9.0.0-rc0, 8.2.12, 8.0.28, or 7.0.39 to address this vulnerability.
