Description
apcupsd through 3.14.14 has an sscanf stack-based buffer overflow in getupsvar() in src/cgi/upsfetch.c (used by upsstats.cgi, multimon.cgi, and upsfstats.cgi), a related issue to CVE-2026-15544.
A stack-based buffer overflow vulnerability has been identified in the apcupsd version 3.14.14 CGI utility 'upsfetch', specifically within the 'getupsvar()' function of 'src/cgi/upsfetch.c'. This vulnerability arises from an unbounded data copy from a Network Information Server (NIS) response into fixed-size buffers, a flaw that also leads to the disclosure of uninitialized stack memory. The issue is present in the apcupsd CGI sub-package, which is commonly used across various Linux distributions, including Fedora, OpenWrt, and Debian.
The vulnerability can be fixed by backporting the correct data handling logic from the daemon-side version of 'getupsvar()' into the CGI version. This involves applying proper bounds checks and ensuring that buffers are initialized before use.
