Description
A weakness has been identified in Trusted Domain Project OpenDMARC up to 1.4.2. This affects the function opendmarc_get_tld of the file libopendmarc/opendmarc_tld.c : of the component PSL Wildcard Handler. Executing a manipulation can lead to origin validation error. The attack may be launched remotely. The exploit has been made available to the public and could be used for attacks. The vendor was contacted early about this disclosure but did not respond in any way.
A vulnerability exists in Trusted Domain Project OpenDMARC versions through 1.4.2, specifically in the PSL Wildcard Handler component. The issue arises in the opendmarc_get_tld function within libopendmarc/opendmarc_tld.c. Under certain wildcard rules in the Public Suffix List, OpenDMARC incorrectly groups organizational domains, leading to origin validation errors. This flaw allows an attacker to manipulate DKIM signatures from sibling hosts, bypassing DMARC checks. The vulnerability can be exploited remotely by controlling a host under the same wildcard suffix as the target.
When a wildcard rule is matched, the organizational domain should be calculated as the public suffix plus one additional label. This adjustment corrects the misalignment that allows for DKIM spoofing from sibling hosts.
