Description
A vulnerability was identified in FAST FAC1900R 20190827_2.0.2. Affected by this issue is the function copy_msg_element of the component devdiscover Service. Such manipulation leads to stack-based buffer overflow. The attack can be executed remotely. The exploit is publicly available and might be used. The vendor was contacted early about this disclosure but did not respond in any way.
A stack-based buffer overflow vulnerability has been identified in the FAST FAC1900R router, specifically in the version 20190827_2.0.2. The issue arises in the 'copy_msg_element' function of the 'devdiscover' service, where the vulnerability can be exploited remotely. The problem occurs because the function improperly validates the length of user-controlled data from network packets before copying it, allowing for overwriting of adjacent stack data, including the return address. This could lead to a crash of the service or potentially allow for control-flow hijacking.
No official patch is currently available. Users are advised to monitor vendor security advisories and upgrade to the latest firmware version when possible.
