Description
A vulnerability was found in FAST FAC1200R 5.0_20201119_1.0.2. Affected is the function parse_advertisement_frame of the component devdiscover Service. The manipulation results in stack-based buffer overflow. The attack may be launched remotely. The exploit has been made public and could be used. The vendor was contacted early about this disclosure but did not respond in any way.
A stack-based buffer overflow vulnerability has been identified in the Fast FAC1200R router, specifically in version 5.0_20201119_1.0.2. The issue arises in the devdiscover service when it processes UDP packets on port 5001. A crafted type-1 advertisement packet can exploit this vulnerability by manipulating the length field, leading to an out-of-bounds copy into a local stack buffer. This vulnerability can be exploited remotely, and the exploit has been made public.
Users are advised to restrict access to UDP port 5001 from untrusted networks. Additionally, implement checks to ensure that the length of parsed advertisement elements does not exceed the size of the destination buffer before copying. Replace any unbounded copy operations with safe copy routines that include length checks.
