Description
In createSessionInternal of PackageInstallerService.java, there is a possible method to remove a DPC app from a managed device without DO consent due to desync from persistence. This could lead to local escalation of privilege if a user can install a malicious app with no additional execution privileges needed. User interaction is needed for exploitation.
A vulnerability has been identified in the PackageInstallerService component of Android 17. This issue allows for the removal of a Device Policy Controller (DPC) app from a managed device without the necessary consent, creating a desynchronization with the app's persistent state. As a result, there is a potential for local elevation of privilege, particularly if a user can install a malicious app that does not require additional execution privileges. Exploitation of this vulnerability requires user interaction.
Users can update their devices to Android 17 with a security patch level of 2026-07-01 or later to address this vulnerability.
