Description
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: perf/x86/amd: Check event before enable to avoid GPF On AMD machines cpuc->events[idx] can become NULL in a subtle race condition with NMI->throttle->x86_pmu_stop(). Check event for NULL in amd_pmu_enable_all() before enable to avoid a GPF. This appears to be an AMD only issue. Syzkaller reported a GPF in amd_pmu_enable_all. A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's handling of performance monitoring events on AMD machines can lead to a general protection fault (GPF). This issue arises from a race condition where the event pointer can become NULL, causing a null pointer dereference. The vulnerability is triggered when the Non-Maskable Interrupt (NMI) handler interacts with the performance monitoring unit, particularly during event throttling and stopping processes. The problem has been reported in Linux kernel version 6.12.0-rc1.
