Description
A divide-by-zero in the encryption/decryption routines of GNU Recutils v1.9 allows attackers to cause a Denial of Service (DoS) via inputting an empty value as a password.
A divide-by-zero vulnerability has been identified in GNU Recutils version 1.9, specifically within the encryption and decryption routines. This issue allows attackers to cause a denial-of-service condition by supplying an empty password, which leads to a process crash. The vulnerability is present in the 'recfix' utility when it is used with an empty password value for encryption or decryption operations.
Users are advised to upgrade to a version of GNU Recutils that includes the patches applied by the maintainer, which are available in the latest release. If an immediate upgrade is not possible, input validation can be added to ensure that passwords passed to Recutils utilities are not empty.
