Description
When the BIG-IP Advanced WAF and ASM security policy and a server-side HTTP/2 profile are configured on a virtual server, undisclosed traffic can cause the Traffic Management Microkernel (TMM) to terminate. Note: Software versions which have reached End of Technical Support (EoTS) are not evaluated.
A denial-of-service vulnerability has been identified in F5 BIG-IP versions 15.x, 16.1.0 through 16.1.5, and 17.1.0 through 17.1.2. When the Advanced WAF and ASM security policies are active on a virtual server, along with a server-side HTTP/2 profile, certain undisclosed traffic can lead to the termination of the Traffic Management Microkernel (TMM). This disruption causes a denial-of-service condition by terminating the TMM process, which is responsible for handling network traffic, thereby disrupting service for new client connections.
Users can upgrade to BIG-IP versions 17.1.2.2 or 16.1.6 to address this vulnerability. For BIG-IP 15.x, no update candidate currently exists, but F5 recommends upgrading to a version with the fix. Consult the F5 BIG-IP hotfix and point release matrix for guidance.
