Description
File Browser provides a file managing interface within a specified directory and it can be used to upload, delete, preview, rename and edit files. Prior to version 2.34.1, a missing password policy and brute-force protection makes the authentication process insecure. Attackers could mount a brute-force attack to retrieve the passwords of all accounts in a given instance. This issue has been patched in version 2.34.1.
A vulnerability in File Browser prior to version 2.34.1 allows for insecure password handling, creating a risk for brute-force attacks on user accounts. The application lacks a password policy and brute-force protection, enabling attackers to guess passwords freely. This issue is exacerbated by the default password for new administrative accounts being 'admin', a widely known and easily guessable credential. As a result, attackers could potentially compromise accounts, including those with administrative privileges, especially on internet-facing instances.
Users are advised to update to File Browser version 2.34.1 or later, where this vulnerability has been patched.
