Description
Insufficient validation of untrusted input in Extensions in Google Chrome prior to 135.0.7049.52 allowed a remote attacker to perform privilege escalation via a crafted HTML page. (Chromium security severity: Medium)
A vulnerability allowing privilege escalation in Google Chrome extensions has been identified. This issue arises from insufficient validation of untrusted input, enabling remote attackers to exploit the vulnerability via a crafted HTML page. The vulnerability is present in Chrome versions prior to 135.0.7049.52.
The vulnerability has been addressed by changing the permission string for the 'contentSettings' extension API. This update clarifies that extensions can use this API to grant themselves permissions, particularly for sensitive features like the microphone and camera. However, a more comprehensive lockdown of the 'contentSettings' API is planned for the future.
