This issue involves the improper handling of the password file, '/etc/passwd', leading to the use of weak hash algorithms for storing password hashes. The vulnerability allows for local exploitation, where an attacker with physical access to the device can read the password hash of the root user. The root password hash can be cracked using common password cracking tools, revealing the plaintext password. This vulnerability is particularly concerning as it exposes the root password, which grants full administrative access to the device.
