Description
A Incorrect Privilege Assignment vulnerability in SUSE rancher allows a Restricted Administrator to change the password of Administrators and take over their accounts. This issue affects rancher: from 2.8.0 before 2.8.14, from 2.9.0 before 2.9.8, from 2.10.0 before 2.10.4.
A vulnerability exists in SUSE Rancher versions 2.8.0 prior to 2.8.14, 2.9.0 prior to 2.9.8, and 2.10.0 prior to 2.10.4, allowing Restricted Administrators to change the passwords of Administrators and gain access to their accounts. This issue arises because Restricted Administrators should not have the ability to modify the passwords of users with higher privileges, unless they possess the Manage Users permission. Deployments of Rancher that do not utilize the Restricted Administrator role are not affected.
Users are advised to upgrade to Rancher versions 2.8.14, 2.9.8, 2.10.4, or 2.11.0, all of which include the necessary fix. If an upgrade is not possible, access for Restricted Administrators should be limited to trusted users, or their roles should be downgraded to custom roles with restricted permissions.
