CVE-2024-44934 Details
Description
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: net: bridge: mcast: wait for previous gc cycles when removing port syzbot hit a use-after-free[1] which is caused because the bridge doesn't make sure that all previous garbage has been collected when removing a port. What happens is: CPU 1 CPU 2 start gc cycle remove port acquire gc lock first wait for lock call br_multicasg_gc() directly acquire lock now but free port the port can be freed while grp timers still running Make sure all previous gc cycles have finished by using flush_work before freeing the port. A use-after-free vulnerability has been identified in the Linux kernel's bridge component, specifically within the multicast port removal process. This issue arises because the bridge does not ensure that all previous garbage collection (GC) cycles have been completed before a port is removed. As a result, a port can be freed while its associated group timers are still active, leading to a use-after-free condition. The vulnerability affects several versions of the Linux kernel, including 6.1.119-1~deb11u1, and has been addressed in the official Linux Git repository.
Users can upgrade to the latest version of the Linux kernel available in the Debian 11 'bullseye' repository, which includes the necessary fix. Instructions for upgrading can be found on the Debian LTS website.
