CVE-2024-21944 Details
Description
Improper input validation for DIMM serial presence detect (SPD) metadata could allow an attacker with physical access, ring0 access on a system with a non-compliant DIMM, or control over the Root of Trust for BIOS update, to potentially overwrite guest memory resulting in loss of guest data integrity.
A vulnerability exists in certain AMD EPYC processors due to improper input validation of DIMM serial presence detect (SPD) metadata. This issue could enable an attacker with physical access, ring 0 access on a system with a non-compliant DIMM, or control over the BIOS update's Root of Trust, to overwrite guest memory, thereby compromising the integrity of guest data.
Users are advised to update to the latest Platform Initialization (PI) firmware and SEV FW versions that include the necessary mitigations. Specific update details can be found in the AMD Security Bulletin AMD-SB-3015.
