Description
Use-after-free vulnerability in bzip2recover in bzip2 1.0.6 allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (crash) via a crafted bzip2 file, related to block ends set to before the start of the block.
A use-after-free vulnerability has been identified in the bzip2recover utility of Bzip2 version 1.0.6. This vulnerability allows remote attackers to cause a denial-of-service condition by crashing the application with a crafted bzip2 file. The issue arises because the block ends can be set before the start of the block, leading to improper memory management.
Users can upgrade to Bzip2 version 1.0.8 or later, which is available in the official repositories of several Linux distributions, including Slackware, FreeBSD, Ubuntu, and Gentoo.
